NORTH WEST MICROLEAGUE.
The start of the competitive swimming journey...
The North West Micro League is a fun, friendly and exciting team swimming competition designed to give young swimmers their first experience of competitive club swimming. It is aimed at swimmers aged 9–12 years old and is one of the most popular junior team competitions in the region. Unlike individual galas, swimmers compete as part of a team representing their club. Every race earns points for the club, creating a brilliant team atmosphere with lots of cheering, excitement and support poolside.

Micro League is designed to help young swimmers:
- Build confidence racing against other clubs
- Learn how team competitions work Develop racing skills and experience
- Feel part of the wider club environment - - - Enjoy competitive swimming in a supportive setting
The competition is split into divisions, with clubs competing across several rounds throughout the season. Teams can be promoted or relegated depending on results, and the top clubs can progress to Northern and National finals

Events usually include:
- 25m and 50m individual races
- Relay races
- Boys and girls events across different age groups
- Team scoring based on finishing positions
Swimmers are selected by the coaching team based on:
- Attendance and attitude at training
- Swimming ability and technique
- Commitment and team spirit
For many swimmers, Micro League is their very first taste of representing Clitheroe Dolphins at competitive events — and often the beginning of their competitive swimming journey
Northwest Micro League is a three Division league aimed at giving young swimmers aged 9-12 their first taste of competitive swimming action in a friendly team-based setting.
The winners and promoted teams are decided by who has accumulated the most points across all events. The team to represent Dolphins consists of 4 to 5 boys and 4 to 5 girls in each of the following age bandings:
Aged 9 and under (at the date of the National final in Nov) - all raced over 25m
Aged 10 (at the date of the National final in Nov) - Butterfly is raced over 25m and all other events raced over 50m
Aged 11 (at the date of the National final in Nov) - all raced over 50m
Aged 12 (at the date of the National final in Nov) - all raced over 50m
The coaching team will select the teams for each gala two weeks in advance of each race and selection will be based on the ability & attitude of the swimmer at training. Given the distances involved this year, we will be hiring a coach/bus totake the team to the events at Knowsley and Widnes.
Details of the competition can be found on the Microleague website : Swimming MicroLeague NorthWest (microleaguenw.org.uk)
