Over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend Archie Lorimer made the trip over Hadrian's Wall to take part in the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow.
Qualifying for 10 events in all, Archie did Dolphins proud over 5 action packed days of swimming at the Tollcross Leisure Centre, where he competed against the best that Scotland had to offer in the highlight of the domestic Scottish age group swimming calendar.
With a busy first day Archie started well, qualifying for the 100m Backstroke Final in his first event, where he eventually finished just out of the medals in 4th place, and finished 19th in the 200m Breaststroke, and 17th in the 50m Butterfly.
Day three saw another final appearance, this time in the 200m Backstroke finishing 7th, along with a 14th place in a large 50m Freestyle field & 26th in the 100m Breaststroke, whilst on Day four there was a 20th place in the 100m Butterfly.
With the Championships drawing to a close the fifth and final day was a busy one, with Archie saving the best til last as a 21st in the 200IM & 15th in the 200 Free only served as a starter for the fireworks to come.
A PB of 33.95secs saw him qualify second for the 50m Backstroke final and whilst there may have been 5 days racing in the swimmers legs, Archie was only beginning to come into form. Facing a formidable multiple championship gold medalist in the form of East Lothians Conner Aspinall in the final, it needed an epic performance and Archie delivered just that. Digging deep Archie managed to shave a further 2.11 seconds off his heat time to comfortably win the final in 31.84 seconds and round off the Championships with a deserved Gold Medal and national title!
Well Done Archie!
